*Please Note: In order to use the FlatWorld Homework tool, the integration needs to be configured with LTI access keys provided by FlatWorld. Please refer to the integration setup article for more information.

Accessing the FlatWorld Homework Tool

Navigate to the course on which you are listed as an instructor, and select the Content link.

On the next page, you will see an option for 'Existing Activities'. Click this to open a dropdown menu and select FlatWorld Homework, or FlatWorld (depending on which LTI version your school is using).

If you are using the newer Content experience offered by D2L/Brightspace, it will be very similar. Click the blue 'Add Existing' button, then select FlatWorld Homework from the available options.

Selecting FlatWorld Homework will bring up the FlatWorld Homework Welcome page, where you will configure the book you are using.

  1. The course name will be taken from D2L. Do not worry about Course ID, as it is for FlatWorld internal use only.

  2. Under the 'Book Field', you can search by ISBN or Title. If you need, you can click on 'get more books' and a link to the FlatWorld website will pull up book details in our catalog.

  3. Once you have selected your book, click 'Confirm'. This will link your book to the homework course (this only need to be done once), and you will be taken to the FlatWorld Homework tool to begin creating your first assignment.

For more information on building out FlatWorld Homework assignments, we recommend the following support articles -

Instructions on creating your assignments with randomly selected questions from an individual chapter (note: Quick Create automatically limits student access - make sure to remove or update these dates to your preference - SKIP to Create an Assignment through Quick Create (LMS):

Instructions on copying an assignment or exam (note: skip to LMS-Integrated Homework Course):

Embedding the Assignment into D2L

When you have completed your assignment and hit 'Publish' you will be prompted to embed the assignment into D2L through the 'Embed in LMS' option.

Clicking the 'Embed in LMS' button will prompt a warning screen, as the act of embedding will automatically publish the assignment. Please be sure that you do not wish to make any changes to the assignment before embedding. Once you are ready, click 'Embed in LMS'.

You will see the embedded assignment listed in the Unit under which you added the activity.

This completes the assignment creation process and it is now ready for use in your course. Congratulations!

Due Dates

You can set your assignment due dates using the D2L settings. Click on the downward-facing caret next to the assignment title and select Edit Properties in Place.

Next, select the Add Dates and Restrictions options.

From here, you can input your desired due date for the assignment and click on Update.

Assignment Point Values

You can edit your assignment point values from the Grades area of your D2L/Brightspace course. Click on the Manage Grades tab and select Edit.

From here, you can navigate to the Grade area and set your desired point value for the assignment.
