How to download the LMS Test Bank Files

  1. Navigate to and log into your account.

  2. Click on Adopted Books to open your dashboard.

  3. Click the Supplements button for the desired book.

  4. On the Supplements page, scroll down to the section titled 'Test Bank Files for Import to Learning Management Systems' and download the BlackBoard .zip file. It will be denoted by "BB" or "BlackBoard" in the file name.

Unzipping the BlackBoard File

  1. Locate the downloaded BlackBoard .zip file on your computer.

  2. Double click the file to unzip/expand the file. Doing so will result in a folder named after the downloaded file. Open this folder to find a folder titled Question Sets.

  3. In this Question Sets folder, the Test Bank questions will be divided further into other .zip files labeled by Chapter or Chapter/Section, depending on which book you are using. These are the files that will be uploaded into Moodle.

  4. While Moodle supports other file types we offer, the Blackboard format provides the cleanest upload.

Importing the Test Bank into Moodle

In Moodle, navigate to the desired course. Click on the Blue Gear Icon located in the top right of the page. Click on the 'More' option. If your menu shows the Question Bank section, select the Import option under it and skip to the 'Import Questions from File' step.

  1. File Format - select Blackboard

  2. Import Category - this determines into which category the questions will be imported. The options available depend on your course set up and structure in Moodle. For this example, it is the default option, which is the default category for this demo course.

  3. Import - in this section, click the 'Choose a file' button. Locate the .zip chapter file you wish to upload through the File Picker. Click 'Upload this file' when done. You will then see the name of the file in blue in the box just under the 'Choose a file' button.

  4. Click the blue 'Import' button at the bottom of the page.

A successful import will show the number of questions imported in green.

Accessing the Imported Questions

The questions can now be added to a Quiz.

On the next page, select the 'Select a category' dropdown menu and choose the test bank you just uploaded. It will have the Chapter name in the question bank title. Selecting that option will allow you to view the uploaded questions below, which you can select for use in your Quiz.

You can also view the questions by accessing the Course Question Banks directly.
