After students complete an assignment you will be able to look at their grades. This article explains the marking used by FlatWorld's Homework platform.
Please Note: If you are using integrated homework through Canvas, BlackBoard, Moodle, or D2L/BrightSpace you would first access and open the assignment through your course in the LMS to launch FlatWorld's platform.
Basic View
The basic view of Homework grades can be reached by going to the "Grades" tab of a given assignment (this tab can be found in both standalone courses and integrated ones, you simply need to open the assignment in the appropriate platform and select the "Grades" tab).
View Questions
To see how students have done on each question click "View Questions" on the right of the page. The question responses displayed will come from the attempt being used to score each student based on your assignment settings (either highest or latest score if multiple attempts are allowed):
You will see one of four different symbols for each question on a given attempt.
Symbol | Description | Meaning |
Green dash | Fully correct answer
Red X | Fully incorrect answer
| Yellow slash | Partially correct answer |
Gray dash | Question not attempted |
At the bottom of the list of attempts, you'll see the average percentage score on each question across all your students' attempts, and under that how many times each question has been attempted by students.
Detail View
In the detail view, you will be able to view a student's answers and see whether they are correct or not. You will also be able to see what the correct answer is and any solutions that are provided. (Note: only some books include solutions, and solutions may not be available for every question in a given book.)
To enter the detail view, click "View Details" under the student's score:
โ
At the top of the detail view, you will see a list of the student's attempts, and below it, you will see the answers they gave on the attempt that the score is being taken from (based on whether you have set the assignment to use the highest or latest score). If you want to look at answers from a different attempt, click on that attempt in the list:
Marking of student answers
In the detail view of the submission you will see how many points the student received for each answer and whether each part of their answer was correct.
Next to each question, you will see a circle showing how many points were received out of the total available for a question on the right of the page. The color of the circle indicates whether the student has received full credit (green), partial credit (yellow), no credit due to an incorrect answer (red), or no credit due to not selecting an answer (gray, with no numbers due to being unattempted).
On each question, the answer given by the student will be marked as correct or incorrect. Correct answers are marked with green checkmarks and highlighted in green and incorrect answers are marked with red Xs and highlighted in red.
If the student selected the wrong answer or otherwise did not select all the correct answers (for example if there are multiple correct answers and only some were selected) the missed correct answers are marked with red Xs and highlighted in yellow.
Correct answer:
Correct answers are marked with a green checkmark and highlighted in green as shown in this image:
Incorrect answer:
Incorrect answers are marked with a red X and highlighted in red. The correct answer will be marked with a red X and highlighted in yellow as shown here:
Partial credit
In the next image, you can see that the two selected answers "Brown" and "Red" are correct, but only 0.67 points have been awarded out of an available 1 point. The option "Yellow" has not been selected, but is also correct, resulting in partial credit.
If the student has selected some correct answers and some incorrect answers on a multiple-selection question they will typically only get partial credit, even if they selected all the right answers, as there is a penalty for incorrect answers.
Note: If you come across a question where a student has selected incorrect answers in addition to the correct ones and has not been penalized for them, please report the question as an error and we will fix the settings for the future. We can rescore the current assignment with the penalty or not as you prefer.
Graphing Questions
Graphing questions do not give partial credit. Each element that is supposed to be on the page will be marked in green and have a checkmark if it is present, and incorrect elements will be marked in red and have Xs. Some graphing elements look similar to each other, like the end points of segments and points created with the line tool. Make sure to follow the directions in the question carefully.
Because of the extra line segment marked in red in the upper right of the graph above, no credit is given for the question.
If a student includes only some of the required elements they will also get no credit on a graphing question. The correct elements will be green with a checkmark to indicate that they are correct, and the missed elements will be in blue, with lines dotted to indicate that the student did not draw them like in the image below:
Marking of missed correct answers
Correct answers that the student did not select are highlighted in yellow and have a red X on the right of the page. You can see all three kinds of marks, selected correct answers, selected incorrect answers, and unselected correct answers here:
On some formats of questions, the correct answer may be shown underneath the question with the student's answer:
